When loud music becomes noise pollution…

El Gouna is a great holiday resort. It is also a place where people live and work. They chose to live in Gouna for the high quality of life it offers.

With Gouna’s great extension, more tourists and owners come to spend their holiday here. Not every one comes to party. Some do, some others want to rest, take it easy, have sporty activities, enjoy the beach and family time.

Unfortunately, there is a steep increase of very loud music played too loud, most nights and too late in areas which are densely populated.

Decibel measurements have shown levels up to 120 (!!!) at 12.30 am on a week day in a downtown open air bar where parties and lively events take place almost every night and often till 2 am.

The Gouna rules, I have just been told, are as follows : the maximum level autorized for commercial units are 85 decibels at the week-end and 50 decibels on week days. Opening time during this summer is up to 2 am all week, and they can have venues every day of the week (!).

Unfortunately, the limits are often exceeded and music is blasting from restaurants and bars. If the maximum level was respected by all, it would be the real ‘Life as it should be’ !

We understand the need for lively restaurants and bars, but believe the noise level has to be reduced to the maximum authorized level. We need more security to make sure it is respected.

This way, people living nearby will not have to endure it, and it won’t take anything from the overall festive atmosphere. Noise level is not a competition as who will play the loudest music. It is all a matter of compromise and balance.
